G'day anyone who hasn't yet given up on me and unwatched me, lol.

Been almost a year since my last journal update and months since I actually posted some work on here.

The truth is, I've taken a bit of a backseat from painting and gaming. I have a handful of mini's that need to painted and eventually I'll get back in gear painting something and posting. I've been considering buying that new Army in a box deal from Privateer press for Legion of Everblight, so I might paint and upload those somewhere in the next few months, but I'll have to see. Box isn't even on sale yet, so yeah...

Currently I don't even have a lot of figures unpainted;
- Rhupert
- Taryn
- Gorman
All Warmachine mercs. And I have a Cygnar Charger standing around in it's grey splendor. The fact that I'm not loading up on mini's like most wargamers, probably underlines how much I've taken a backseat.

Aside from that; I suppose I'm doing fine. Looking around into some other projects, which sadly have no room on DA. As some might know, I have quite a history recording music and being active with that, so I'm kinda delving into that a bit more again. And since my days only have 24 hours... priorities.

I seem to set a trend with long absence now. It's been close to 6 months before I put up a new journal here. But then again, I don't want it to feel forced either. It's probably why I could never manage to do something that involves active social media. Sometimes I receive updates from people (either privately or professionally active) and it just makes me cringe and wonder "is this all you have to say?" I rather update my journal or state of being once in a while when it could easily double as an essay, but that's probably me. There's more that's "probably just me" bickering about how people and society is. But... this is DeviantArt and not market square and a soapbox.

So anyway; I haven't posted a lot of figures in the past few months. Last week actually was a change from that routine. I decided to take a small break from painting lots. At the end of last year I painted a few daemons, a 40k character, some Hordes mini's and that was it. Then, January came and I decided to take a break. I had other plans, which... of course didn't really come to fruition either. Sometimes life gets in the way, sometimes I just lack some serious motivation or inspiration to get kickstarted.

Some ideas are still floating around... I guess I'm just brooding over them and waiting for them to hatch.

As posted in my previous journal; miniatures, armies, selling them... by now I've shrunken down my collection a bit by selling my Tau. Perhaps I should take armies for a test-drive before I buy them. Sure seems like that. I guess I'm not that fond of tech, and just tech and gunlines, and more gunlines. Daemons however, do stick around for some odd reason. Perhaps it's the variety the codex offers. Chaos space marines is similar I suppose, even though assault armies aren't that viable and shooting tends to be the way to go in 6th. I'll calmly await the new Orks book this year somewhere. And I hope they fix a few things... though on the other hand, I wouldn't hold my breath, since the new Nids book told us that GW doesn't always care to fix thing *cough*Genestealers*cough*.

So currently I have 2.5 armies. Orks and Chaos.. and more Chaos. My chaos forces tend to count as 1.5 rather than 1 force, since for fluff reasons they're somewhat interchangeable. Besides; Daemon princes are a viable thing for both armies anyway.

My Orks are about 3100 points. No new additions there.
My Chaos forces grew a bit in size though. Those add up to about 4900 points at the moment. And I still need a few things for my nurgle themed Chaos marine list and some other things for my Tzeentch themed daemon list. Perhaps I'll do some Nurgle themed daemons (aside from that handful of plaguebearers) or some Tzeentch themed marines down the line. Ahriman does look pretty tasty in the codex as a character HQ; Thousand sons marines... well, for fluff sake, I might try them out.

Despite the fact that I don't actively play (well, currently I just collect) Warmachine/hordes, I have 4 factions around. Though I like them for the aesthetic. Both my Khador and Cygnar are about 50 points. My Menoth and Skorne armies are just a bit beyond the battlebox contents.

Well, ok.. not really the length of an essay... but at least there's a sign of life. I'm still alive!

Peace out,

M.

Guess it's time for an update after a few months.

Anyone who is following me has probably seen the figures I've put out in the past few months. It went from Tau to Chaos, to Warmachine figures, a small bit of Dystopian wars.

I've come to the point where I'll settle with my current 40k armies and won't be upgrading a whole lot at the time. As of now I've got;
Tau; Roughly 1750 points before upgrades
Orks; Roughly 3100 points before upgrades
Chaos (Daemons & Marines); roughly 2700 before upgrades

Those are decent amounts to change around a few armylists. Considering I usually play 1850 points with my friend, it should really be enough. If the new Ork codex hits the shelves I might get some stuff here or there, but that's in the long run somewhere.

Anyone who followed me for a while also noticed how there have been a few armies missing in this list. I've parted ways with my imperial forces. I sold off my Grey knights army and my Dark angels. I needed some space and they were sitting around collecting dust. These were also armies I got into the hobby with last year, because of the low model count. Dark angels was roughly 30 models. My Grey knights started out as a Draigowing force with just over 20 models... that eventually ended up being 60+ models and a lot of other fun things. I don't play that often either. I should add, I still have a really small group of Grey knight figures around. But it's pretty much inquisition only. Coteaz, some Henchmen, another inquisitor, some assassins. Might be fun for a combat patrol type of game under 500 points or so. Another reason I decided to sell them was playing other armies seemed way more fun.

I've had a few games here and there. A game with my Tau, a game with my combined Daemons. I lost miserably, but I had a good time. I'm clearly not that much of a fan of 2+ and 3+ saves armywide I guess. So I guess, the least fun armies need to go at some point. I enjoyed rolling for Warp storms way more than running rampant with a Dreadknight. Though I'm quite sure... running rampant with a Daemon prince will be good times.

So, 40k is slightly "on hold" for now. I'm somewhat finished with my armies to have enough choices to make up for different types of lists that might look like fun. Well... I guess I could use Crisis suits more... but in general; I'm good for now.

I'm putting my money on Warmachine at the moment. Slowly expanding 2 armies to 50 points. Maybe there'll be a third one, maybe I'll look into Hordes... I don't know. The issue however is; no one in my area plays Warmahordes. But I guess I'm not that active of a player anyway. But I always like to build an army with an actual goal in mind. Like "X amount of points" or a themed list. At first I started Warmachine for the aesthetic and the steampunk inspired theme... for some reason that sticks more to me than aliens going for an "all out war" like 40k. Besides; I can store both my Warmachine armies on a single shelf on a wall... good luck doing that with an average 40k army. Clearly a bigger shelf required.

And then there's Dystopian wars, which I still have to play my first game of, but a friend of mine is building a seascape table (which makes more sense considering he collects Dystopian wars figures as well), so that can't be that far away. At least I can run around and scream "you sunk my battleship" without playing an actual game of battleship.

Also; painting figures requires a decent time investment. I have a decent amount of time, but I also have other interests I want to get to. My games library on Steam is nearing 100 games and a fair few I have yet to play. I should blame summersales... and I guess I should blame my lack of impulse control, heh. I'll get to those games eventually... they're good when you're on a tight budget and don't have money for figures.

Finally, and this is something on my mind lately. The more and more I walk into the local GW store I just browse around, spectate some game for a bit and don't really see anything worth buying anymore (except for some paints). It's not because GW is expensive or a bad company (they might be, but that's not the point I'm trying to make). That's the aforementioned "I'm good for now". I'm one of those people that is not the target demographic for GW I guess (or any other company). I don't have this desire to have the new thing, because it's new and flashy. Tau might be arguable, but as I said in a previous blog here; I got it for cheap. I've spent about 250 euro on my Tau army, and that includes the codex... and that is reasonably cheaper than the average 1750 to 2000 points army for retail price (and like I also said; it was all new in box)

So anyway; right now I'm good to go, but obviously I could probably come up with a new goal like "OMG WANT NEW ELDAR NOAW!" but reality has set in at some point and I figured; then what? Buy army, paint, play 1 game and sell again? And with a loss at that. Since clearly, painted armies don't earn you money, unless you're really, really good at painting... which, by that notion would jack up a 3000 point army to a higher pricerange. If I spend 500 euro/dollars/pounds on an army and do a "high level pro-painted" standard, that army will probably sell for more than 500... but it also means you'd have to find people whom have 500+ to burn in one go. Those people are rather sparse.

So, that's a small update from my behalf

Peace out,

M.

Nope that title makes no sense... neither does this floating banana.

So... after a random interjection of the Tau I guess I can get on with my life again.

Oh wait, there should be more Tau in the future. Because; why settle with one riptide if you can play 2? Well you can play 3... but I think crisis suits need some love too. And I think my army needs at least a Hammerhead. But that's long term. I haven't even gotten to surprise my friend with my new army. Still haven't told him...

Haven't told him about my new project either. New project... new army, heh. I already started painting up some Chaos marines and some other models for that army. My initial idea was to go Chaos space marines. Slowly I'm also considering options for a Chaos daemons army with some Marine allies. What's not to like about daemons with a heldrake? I could settle with a daemon prince, some cultists and that silly dragon. Oh, and get more daemon princes while I'm at it... and have Kairos. Because... Kairos! And pink horrors... they're metal as fuck with their metal horns up. And of course, bright pink is metal as fuck as well. Just like a hello kitty daem... oh wait... scrap that. Instead; Miffy charges and attacks with the black mace... miffy kills an entire squad of guard. Miffy consolidates...

So aaaaaaaaanyway; daemons might be an option. And a good way to experiment with other colors except for blacks, greys and everything that's used and "old". Doing bright gradients surely is a challenge. Might be a good challenge and a way to learn to use my new airbrush as well.

Aside from all of that, I'm doing some scenery at the moment for Dystopian wars. Nothing fancy, just some islands. Because it seemed a bit silly to have ships lined up across the ocean and start shooting. Especially when there's some ships that outrange others. Reminds me of that sketch Ricky Gervais did about the Falkland war. It's like holding an angry midget at armslength and then at one point punting him. Oh wait, for some PC; little people.

My punk noir project is still on hold. Haven't had a lot of motivation for it. Last I did was a 3d render for a prop I still should make. I'll get to it... sometime, just not now. I'm noticing that even though I'm not in a creative mood for that part, my painting skills for miniature aren't getting a lot worse, heh. They're improving a lot, so the break isn't that bad I guess.

Peace out,

M.

So, last time I ranted about GW and their policies... and while I still think they hold up, they tended to redeem themselves a bit by not upping the price on everything... yet. Yes, paints went up, brushes went op... but they were the same price for a few years, so I guess that's fair.

However, somehow I've been able to coerce myself into more GW products. Yes I'm a hypocrite... but wait... wait... hold on a second. What if I told y'all that I bought almost an entire army, new, in plastic off someone as "2nd hand" for way cheaper than retail?

This got dropped in the mail last friday. And yes.. .that's Tau. An army of which I never thought I'd get into it. But I guess one can change. It's not that I hated the army, but I wasn't to sure about the entire "gundam" thing. I'm not big on Japanese stuff like that anyway. But then again, I like Transformers and other silly robot things. So that makes the Riptide somewhat awesome. Looking over the recent codex of their, seeing some shenanigans with people using the army I figured I can't go wrong that much. Afterall, I never thought I'd play Orks either... and I've had the most fun ever kicking around little green dudesmen.

So, what did I get in the mail.

  • XV 104 Riptide, which actually sounds way more awesome on Spanish; Cataclismo
  • 2 x Pathfinder team
  • Devilfish Transport
  • Tau Battleforce (the old one; Devilfish, 12 Firewarriors, Stealth team, 1 XV8 Crisis suit, 10 Kroot)
  • Darkstrider
  • XV89 Battlesuit (Forgeworld kit)
Just around 1500 points or so. I'll probably spend a few bucks to round it out to 1850 (the regular points standard I play with a friend of mine), which is most likely just adding another Firewarrior team and another Crisis suit. Which I guess is fair enough considering the money I saved on this lot.

The most hilarious thing about this entire army is that in some way it's a practical joke as well. Because... well... I sometimes like practical jokes.

My friend is on a holiday trip right now for about 2 weeks. He doesn't have a clue I'm building a new army. So it'll be quite a surprise when we'll get together for a game and I'll put a totally new, fully painted army on the table. Granted, I'm quite fast in terms of painting I guess, so 2 weeks isn't unreasonable for me to get the army painted. I've already assembled about 33%.. tomorrow is sunday and I'll go on with at least another 33% if not more in assembly. After that it's painting like I'm working in a sweatshop I guess. But that's the way I usually get my stuff done.

So at least people can expect me to drop some fresh Tau of the assembly line soon. Not entirely sure about the paintscheme, but I have an idea here or there.

Peace out,

M.
